Unobtrusive Javascript
"Javascript is a wonderful tool to enhance the usability of web sites. It is the extra layer above the mark-up 'what is this text' and the CSS 'how should it be displayed'. Javascript adds a new dimension, the 'how should this element behave'."
This site does a great job of teaching how JavaScript is meant to be used!

How disabled users access the Internet
In 1995 a new era of accessibility for disabled people began. The DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) was passed, stating that:
It's unlawful for a service provider to discriminate against a disabled person by refusing to provide any service which it provides to members of the public.

If Architects Had To Work Like Web Designers...
I advise you to run up and look at my neighbor's house he constructed last year ... It has many features that we would also like in our new home, particularly the 75-foot swimming pool. With careful engineering, I believe that you can design this into our new house without impacting the final cost.

Browse Happy
Is this for real? Don't get me wrong, if it is then great! I am all up for getting IE off the web. But did the US Government really warn people not to use it? If they didn't, and someone calls them on it, then the new browser wars will be lost just because someone wants to win so badly.
Check out the 'why' page to understand what I mean. Email me if you have any more info.

The e-commerce benchmark
This is going to take some explaining:
This link is to the 'Karova Store' FAQ. Karova Store is a .net e-commerce package made by Andy Clarke's Stuff and Nonsense team. It is a great example of how I think all web application should be aiming to work at the moment, and I consider it to be a benchmark for other e-commerce, as well as other web systems to live up to.
Obviously, it cannot do everything, but as far as its strict adherence to Web Standards is concerned, and because of the benefits this brings, I love it.
Now all we (www.netring.co.uk) have to do, is take it one step further. Somehow.

To Hell with Color Coding
ColoUr coding of different sections on a web site that is. This technique can be used as a good usability tool to help the audience navigate around the website. However, this blog post points out that it can be done wrong, and there might be more important things to apply the colour too.
I'm not sure if I agree with everything said, but it's a good read. Enjoy.

CSS hack: PNG backgrounds
With the expanding support for PNG, it has become more and more frustrating to be prevented by IE's lack of support to fully use PNGs. We will try to find a way to bypass IE's limitations (until the next vesion comes out and hopefully solves the problem) by showing it what it can display, and by giving PNGs to more modern browsers.

Web Standards are being taken up in fource, and everyone is talking about them. Dam, I redeveloped my whole blog because of them, and I am slowly rehasing gnasp.com for the same reasons.
But are we loosing the plot a little? I don't agree with all the comments made on this article, but I do find them interesting.

Finding Creativity
A great little conversation going on at Whitespace at the moment, all about methods and ways of Finding Creativity.
At some point, we all have to do this, whether a web developer, a poster artist, graphic designer, or musician. Maybe we can ask other people outside of our line of work how they do Find Creativity, and then try and implement the ideas to our creative process. The hardest part of this, is finding those other people online.

The Art of Adam Betts
A pretty nifty site, that I like a lot. It does have an issue with Firefox; It has a strange line accross the header.
